FEATURED PROJECTS

Bluebird Canyon Landslide, Laguna Beach CA

In June of 2005, a landslide occurred on residential hillside in Laguna Beach destroying a dozen homes and damaging seven others. Geofirm was called to the scene as the landslide was still moving, and the wheels were set in motion to mitigate further movement and damage and repair the hillside for the City of Laguna Beach and the residents left without a place to live. In approximately two years, and with nearly 300 tiebacks, over 100 caissons and nearly 50,000 cubic yards of cement treated soil, the hillside was repaired. Today many of the homes have been rebuilt, and the destroyed infrastructure has been repaired.

North Palm Drive Condominiums, Beverly Hills CA

The North Palm Drive Condominium project involved construction of a five-story condominium building, with a two-story subterranean garage. Basement grades for the subterranean garage resulted from excavations to depths of approximately 30 feet below grade. The foundation system consisted of perimeter caisson shoring/retaining walls with an interior mat slab, and required sub-slab drainage for construction.

Portola Hills Slope Repair, Orange County CA

The heavy rains 2010-2011 caused disastrous mudflows, debris flows, and slope failures throughout Southern California impacting numerous homeowners and Community Associations throughout the Southland. One such hillside community in Portola Hills experienced a number of slope failures and mudflows that encroached on several homes in their community. SMC quickly investigated the cause, mechanism and geometry of the failures to develop a cost effective and time efficient repair solution. The slopes were restored by November of 2011, in time for the oncoming rainy season.
